Task 2) Download the 2 copies of "Evaluating_Websites.doc" in order to fill them out.
Task 3) Follow along in class to fill out the first document, "Evaluating Websites - MLK Org".

READ ALL DIRECTIONS BEFORE YOU BEGIN
1) Download the "Website Analysis Document" below. 2) Read the descriptions of the different labels for new websites, located on the right -> 3) Follow the link below to visit the list of Unreliable Sources: https://docs.google.com/document/d/10eA5-mCZLSS4MQY5QGb5ewC3VAL6pLkT53V_81ZyitM/edit 4) Find 3 sources listed on the document with an "Unknown" tag, and go to the website. (Crtl+F) 5) Evaluate the website in order to provide 3 different labels. 6) When you provide the label, you need to give a 2 sentence long reason as to why that label fits. 7) Add the Website Analysis Document to your Weebly Notes titled "Website Analysis"

Website Labels You Will Work With
Fake News: Sources that entirely fabricate information, disseminate deceptive content, or grossly distort actual news reports.
Satire: Sources that use humor, irony, exaggeration, ridicule, and false information to comment on current events. Extreme Bias: Sources that come from a particular point of view and may rely on propaganda, de-contextualized information, and opinions distorted as facts. Conspiracy Theory: Sources that are well-known promoters of kooky conspiracy theories. Rumor Mill: Sources that traffic in rumors, gossip, innuendo, and unverified claims. State News: Sources in repressive states operating under government sanction. Junk Science: Sources that promote pseudoscience, metaphysics, naturalistic fallacies, and other scientifically dubious claims. Hate News: Sources that actively promote racism, misogyny, homophobia, and other forms of discrimination. Clickbait: Sources that provide generally credible content, but use exaggerated, misleading, or questionable headlines, social media descriptions, and/or images. Proceed With Caution: Sources that may be reliable but whose contents require further verification. |
